Gonzalo Lira's Battle for Truth has Lead to His Imprisonment
The renowned Chilean-American author and Ukrainian resident is once again imprisoned by the Kiev-regime for political dissent.
"No man is an island entire of itself; every man
is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;
if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe
is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as
well as any manner of thy friends or of thine
own were; any man's death diminishes me,
because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom
the bell tolls; it tolls for thee." - John Donne
Gonzalo Lira, an American and Chilean citizen residing in Ukraine, has been the victim of flagrant human rights violations at the hands of the Ukrainian security services (SBU). Gonzalo graduated from Dartmouth College in 1995 before writing novels of unprecedented success as a Chilean author.
Despite being a citizen of the United States, the State Department has done nothing to pressure Kiev into releasing or deporting him. The conditions in which he is being held are reportedly abhorrent and he has little to no chance of striving the 8 year sentence that awaits him if there is no international intervention on his behalf.
Arrested for his YouTube videos that criticized the West and the proxy regime in Kiev, Gonzalo Lira's plight highlights the grave consequences of dissent in a society under the guise of democracy. The charges brought against him show no evidence of any crime against property or individuals, further exposing the deeply troubling pattern of silencing those who dare to speak out against the prevailing narrative regarding the current military crisis.
All journalists owe it to ourselves and our work to stand in solidarity with Gonzalo, a defender of truth, who is currently being subjected to torture and inhumane treatment with little hope of being freed from his wrongful imprisonment. His account reveals a web of corruption, thuggish tactics, and extortion within the very fabric of Zelensky's Ukraine. Moreover it provides further evidence of the disturbing collusion between Ukraine’s government and that of the United States (see my article on Myrotvorets).
Despite seeking support from various embassies, Gonzalo's pleas have fallen on deaf ears, prompting us to call on the international community for assistance. The EU and the US who often claim to champion democratic values and human rights, ought to hold the Zelensky regime they are so eagerly funding accountable. That said, I don’t recommend anyone hold their breath.
As the date of Gonzalo's trial approaches, we must urge the international community to rally behind him and advocate for justice. We must implore nations with the ability to intervene to examine the indictment closely and make every attempt to get him out of Ukraine where he can then be granted the political asylum he is undoubtedly entitled to.
My thoughts and prayers are with Gonzalo Lira and his family as he faces an uncertain fate. Please share his story as it has the power to inspire all of us to continue fighting against the rising tide of authoritarianism and tyranny in the West. And to those working in the mainstream media here in the West who are proliferating the destruction of innumerable homes and the deaths of countless people, please remember: there is no shortage of men rotting in prison for doing your job. Gonzalo has joined the list, much to the disgrace of the whole of Western society.
