Israeli Airstrike Targets Iranian Embassy in Damascus
Multiple diplomatic and high-ranking military officials have been confirmed killed in the attack.
The most senior Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp (IRGC) commander killed by Israel in Syria to date, IRGC Brigadier General Zahedi, died in the strike. The significance of such a definitive escalation is obvious, and while the attack may have been a response to the overnight air assault on the Israeli naval base in Eilat, as some analysts propose, such a connection appears rather far-fetched in light of the brazen nature of the strike in Damascus.
The attack marks a significant level of escalation as this is the first time an Iranian government building has been openly attacked. If Iran has any hope of keeping Israel at bay, it will need to react swiftly and decisively. That said, a militarized response would likely be playing directly into Israeli hands—killing civilians IDF-style only increases security threats, and a prolonged ceasefire would spell certain loss for Israel.
It should also be noted that according to international law as if that’s ever a concern the Iranian consulate qualifies as Iranian territory, making the strike an act of war. I imagine, however, that the response will be less than fitting, bringing to mind memories of the USS Liberty, which Israel ruthlessly attacked with absolutely zero consequences.
Israelis are scared.
Zionism has successfully managed to override any semblance of rationality, and the modern IDF mantra declaring that Israel “has no choice” but to escalate conflict in the Middle East is fallacious bullshit, unquestionably designed to force a myriad of tragic consequences which will ultimately culminate in inevitable mutual obliteration. The current invocation in Damascus is only the most recent attempt to egregiously beat/pressure/wag the dog out of pathetic fear.
To be clear, Israel simply cannot continue to impose its will upon the Middle East, which is the land of the Arab people (aka Semites.) Perpetual conflict will ensure that the entire region is bloodied, as those who unfortunately had their countries, militaries, governments bought and paid for by the US have witnessed. It also is not beyond acknowledgement that US support for Israel will someday be the only single cause for mutual societal obliteration.
C’est la vie en démocratie.
